Javad Bahrami is a visual and experimental sound artist. Born in Tehran, Iran, he started painting independently during childhood and began studying more seriously at a visual arts training institute at the age of eleven and later at an art high school in Tehran. He attended the College of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran, while continuing to develop his own artistic path independently of the college's curriculum. During this time, he also began recording the sounds of his surroundings on his phone and then worked on these recordings using software to create audio pieces that could be considered sound art but are more closely related to contemporary improvisational composition.
He continued creating audio pieces outside of an academic framework and began playing instruments without formal training, recording them as pieces of a piece. In his pieces, the focus is on sound itself. He may play a wrong note, or you may hear many wrong notes in a recording, but it is not about making music according to academic definitions or about a note itself. It is not about the identity of a note, but about its sound, like the sounds of everything around us, which do not necessarily have any relationship to one another. These audio pieces have become an important part of his work.
He has participated in several group exhibitions and has had his work selected for visual arts festivals since before attending art school. In 2017, he won the top prize at the 6th Damonfar Visual Arts Festival and, as part of the award, participated in a short course at the Faber-Castell Academy in Nuremberg, Germany.
